Interest rates might be on hold this month but next month unfortunately we will be seeing a rise in the cost of electricity for our Everton Park homes.
From July the 1st, electricity is set to increase by 13.29 per cent which means that now more than ever is the time to start paying attention to the amount of energy that we are using and try to reduce our costs where we can.
Luckily there is some concession available to home owners in the form of the Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme which “pays households and other small customers for the surplus electricity generated from roof-top solar photovoltaic (PV) panel systems, which is exported to the Queensland electricity grid.
Customers participating in the Scheme will be paid 44 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for surplus electricity fed into the grid—more than double the current general domestic use tariff of 18.84c/kWh (inc GST as at 1 July 2009).”
I think the new Solar Bonus Scheme is a great idea and hopefully it will encourage energy efficiency and save home owners some money too! It is estimated that the average customer could save about $400 per year!
