Moving Homes with Kids

Selling a home can be a stressful experience at the best of times, but sometimes for parents, selling and moving can be a little bit more of a challenge.

When talking about the experience of moving with kids with past vendors, most tend to agree that it helps to make them aware of plans to move as soon as possible and get them involved early in the selling process. If the moving experience is made into a happy occasion then it can be a lot easier for everyone involved.

When you start packing your child’s stuff away for instance, it might help if you do this together. Go through every item and if there are old toys or clothes you want to give or throw away then it helps to ask them first.

One of my clients also suggested putting a couple of toys in each household box you pack away. That way the kids get excited with each box when you go to unpack, and it may encourage them to help out.

When it comes to open homes make sure to pack away messy items like play-doh or paints that might be hard to pack up in a hurry. You may also want to create incentives for your kids to keep their rooms clean, such as a trip to the movies or extra pocket money.

If you are selling a home with children involved it also helps to have an understanding real estate agent. For instance you may require a bit more notice when you have kids so that you can tidy up after your kids or explain you are about to have visitors. Some parents also may also require that inspections occur during certain times so that they don’t interfere with the kid’s daily routines.

All in all selling and presenting a home when you have children doesn’t need to be difficult. If you make the idea of moving a positive experience then your house sale should go smoothly.
