There is nothing more unpleasant for homeowners then finding out you have dreaded termites! The best thing you can do when you find out you have termites is to get quick treatment, to prevent any further damage to your home.
Prevention is better than cure though, so below are some tips to help keep those pesky white ants away.
- Keep the backyard clean – Inspect the outside of your home, do you have leftover timber lying around or anything else that might look tasty to termites? If so then at least make sure that these items are kept as far away from your house as possible so they don’t provide a gateway to your home.
- Keep moisture away – It is no secret that termites love moisture so try and prevent excess watering and keep an eye out for leaking air conditioners or leaky pipes that need fixing.
- Keep an eye out – Catching termites early on can help prevent too much damage being done to your home. The peak season for termites is usually during spring and summer so be more vigilant around these times. If you are unsure about what to look for when inspecting for termites call in a registered pest controller and ask them for advice.
If you have already found termites at your home then the best thing to do is seek professional help immediately.
The insecticides that are used to treat termites are strong and can be hazardous; therefore they should only ever be handled by a registered pest controller.
