If you want to build a home or renovate this year in Brisbane, then you better get in quick!
That was the message from an article in the Brisbane Times, with the report that we will have very few builders and tradesmen available when they are called on to help rebuild and repair flood affected areas.
Those who need the services of builders and tradies still have a little bit of time though. It is likely that the majority of works won’t take place for at least another 2 months, as a lot of rebuilding projects are still in the planning phase.
If you do decide to build or renovate when few builders are available, then you could end up paying higher prices for their services, simply because they will be in such high demand.
Australian Institute of Architects Queensland president Peter Skinner mentioned in the Brisbane Times however, that if people wait until the end of the year to get their projects done, then they should be able to do so for a much better price. Mr Skinner advises people who have the funds, to sign up for a builder now if they can.
“Otherwise the better option is to wait until the initial rush has died down. Unfortunately, the people affected by the floods and cyclone have less options. If I'm out of my house and renting then obviously I've got to get back in as soon as possible," he said.
