A reminder to our readers from Ferny Grove that rail operations at Ferny Grove station are switching from the existing platform to the new temporary platform while construction begins on the Keperra to Ferny Grove Rail Upgrade.
Information about the temporary platform:
- The only entry is at the the Samford end.
- The ticket office is located adjacent to the new platform entry.
- Pedestrian access across the tracks and to the existing platform at the city end will be now permanently closed.
Temporary carparks have been set up, which is good news for commuters who usually miss out in the morning, but just watch out for the gravel and the dust which may not be a suitable environment for your car. Be aware too that the temporary carparks are outside of the lit, security zone of the established carparks, so you might want to keep that in mind.
This upgrade involves the duplication of just over two and a half kilometres of track between the two suburbs, in a bid to increase rail capacity and improve the reliability of the Ferny Grove line for rail and road users alike. It’s been said that the new improvements will result in a 30 second reduction at the Dawson Parade level crossing, which equates to approximately 14 additional vehicles being able to proceed – somewhat reducing congestion. Newmarket, Enoggera and Alderley stations are also receiving a sprucing up, receiving everything from new display screens, facility upgrades, landscaping and increased disabled access.
Remember – take care during rail upgrades. Follow the signs and be aware of changes that could provide a hindrance to your journey to and from work and school.
