There are quite a few walking groups in Everton Park and so I’m sure many of our residents understand the importance that walking can play in helping to keep fit and healthy.
For those who don’t think that they have much spare time to fit walking into their day, a great way to sneak it in there is by walking all or part of the way to work or school.
Fitting this little bit of extra walking into your day can have great effects on your health and fitness levels. In fact it has been found that walking to work can help boost health and wellbeing and it can make you more productive throughout the work day – who doesn’t want that?
Because walking to work can have so many advantages, the Cancer Council runs an annual event called Walk to Work Day that encourages people to leave their cars at home and help raise some money at the same time.
If you would like to give walking to work a try then Walk to Work Day will be held on September 16. Remember if you don’tlive close enough to your work to be able to walk all the way there you can still take public transport and walk part of the way or you could park about 1km from your work and walk the extra distance. You could always go for a long walk during your lunch break too.
So encourage your workmates and your Everton Park neighbours to all walk to work next Friday and try and raise some money for a good cause too!
If you plan on taking part in Walk to Work Day head to their website to find out more at www.walk.com.au.
