Have you been putting the right rubbish in the right bin?
There’s a good chance that there are a few Everton Park residents who don’t pay much attention to where they throw their waste, and we’ve heard of some households who simply fill up one bin then fill up the next one when it’s full, without worrying about whether or not it’s recyclable or being put in the right place.
Residents of the Brisbane City Council have 3 rubbish bins they can use – a general-waste bin, a recycling bin and an optional green-waste bin.
General-waste should never make its way into the recycling or green-waste bins (as it can contaminate entire truck-loads) and similarly recycling and green-waste shouldn’t end up in the general-waste bins as this means that more items are going to landfill than is necessary – which is bad for our local environment!
It’s important to make sure that you educate yourself about which items can and can’t be recycled. If you head over to the Brisbane City Council website you can find a list of what can and cannot be put in each bin (some of the items you might be surprised by).
If you can’t fit everything in the one bin, and that is why you have been putting items in a different one, you can order larger bins through the Brisbane City Council website.
It is so important to use our bins correctly so that we can cut down on the community’s waste and live in a cleaner and healthier environment.
Do you know what items are supposed to be put in each of your bins?
