Fatality Free Friday was held recently and it served as a reminder to a lot of Australians of how important it is for us all to be safe and mindful when on the roads if we want to help avoid accidents and road fatalities.
When driving, people shouldn’t be doing things like talking on their mobile phones or getting ready for work, as full attention is always needed.
There’s no law against snacking while driving, but drivers can be fined for not having proper control of a motor vehicle (which could perhaps include eating a burger with two hands) or for using a mobile phone while driving.
An unfortunate statistic shows that 5.3 people die on our nation’s roads every day and in the 12 months ending in March 2012 there were 1,301 road fatalities Australia-wide. These kinds of statistics can be lowered if everybody drives safely, follows the road rules and avoids doing things that could distract them from the road.
