How well do you know your neighbours?

friends in circleNeighbour Day is held each year on the last Sunday of March, so this year Easter Sunday will bring together families and friends, but also whole community as it ties in with the annual celebrations of Neighbour Day in Everton Park.

According to http://www.neighbourday.org/, there are 5 main principles that have helped to shape the meaning of Neighbour Day since 2003.  They are:

1. Strengthen communities and build better relationships with the people who live around us.

2. Create safer, healthier and more vibrant suburbs and towns.

3. Promote tolerance, respect and understanding.

4. Break down community barriers.

5. Protect the elderly, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

Here in Everton Park we are lucky to have friendly streets and a thriving community full of activities, events and facilities for the older generation, parents, teens and children.  But just how often do you strike up a chat with one of your neighbours?

If you’re going to be busy on Sunday creating Easter egg hunts or decorating Easter baskets, why not make this whole week Neighbour Week?   Think about what you can do to help brighten our Everton Park community.  It may be anything, from donating goods to the charity bin, saying “Hi” to your neighbour, or simply wearing a smile as you head out and about.

What will you do this Neighbour Day to help strengthen your relationships with those around you or brighten up Everton Park?
