On the 25th of April each year the Everton Park community join with the rest of Australia to pay homage to the ANZACS who fought so courageously for our country, and braved conditions and terrors that are simply beyond the imaginations of most of us.
ANZAC Day is arguably one of Australia’s most important and proud national holidays. The day allows us time to reflect on the sacrifices that were made by our brave soldiers during the First World War to allow us to remain a democratic and free country, and that are still made by our defence forces today.
If you want to show your ANZAC spirit this year, you can do so by watching the ANZAC Day march take place through the streets of Brisbane, or you might like to attend one of the dawn vigils or memorial services that all serve as a way to commemorate the ANZACS.
We all receive a public holiday on ANZAC Day and it is important that we take some time on this day, no matter how busy our lives are, to either attend a commemorative service or at least to join the nation in a minute’s silence where we can think about how lucky we are to have the freedoms and way of life we have in Australia today.
