Preparing for Storm Season

With spring now upon us, and hot summer days drawing closer, it’s time to start preparing for storm season.

Now there is no need to panic or get worried, but it never hurts to have your home prepared in case a storm hits, so it is protected from any possible damage.

Here are some things you should make sure you do:

  • Check your roof for any damage or corrosion. Loose tiles or sheeting can become very dangerous if a storm hits.
  • Clear away all leaves and debris from gutters, downpipes and drains.
  • Get your local council or your energy company to check trees hanging over your house or nearby powerlines, to make sure they don’t pose a threat.
  • Trim trees on your property (if they are near powerlines you will need to get Energex out to trim them for you).
  • Make sure your home, building and contents are adequately insured.
  • Pack away all loose items outside your house. This includes items like bikes, furniture or any building materials.
  • Keep windows and doors closed when you leave for the day.
  • Make sure you have a torch or candles on standby, and it’s a good idea to keep your mobile handy too.
