Fruit and Vegie Prices Too High? Then Why Not Grow Your Own?

3 Mar 2011 Brian Brady 1 Comment

With fruit and vegetable prices so high at the moment, Brisbane’s residents have been looking at ways to help cut down on their grocery bills.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to grow your own fruit and vegetables in the backyard. Not only will this make your grocery bill much smaller but it will also mean you’ll be eating fresher produce and you won’t have to worry about chemicals on your food.

Having a vegetable patch in your own backyard has so many benefits and the gardening itself can be a fun and educational experience for you and your family.

If you’re unsure where to start, there are heaps of online resources available, but I’ve put together a small list of websites for you, to help get you started.

Bunnings – Products and DIY Tutorials
ABC’s Gardening Australia – Veggie Guide
Home Improvement Pages – Building a Veggie Garden
Gardenate – What Veggies to Plant When
VegetableGarden Planting Guide – All kinds of tips and tutorials
Yates – Things you need to know about growing vegetables

Picking your own fresh fruit and vegetables from your backyard can be a great feeling, and it’s so much more convenient than running down to the shop. So start thinking about where you could put a vegetable patch in your backyard, it could end up being one of the best things you’ve ever done!
