2012 is the National Year of Reading and that means that this year we will see a lot of fun and educational reading activities taking place all around the country to help encourage young and old, from all different backgrounds, to pick up a book and start reading.
Reading is becoming an increasingly essential part of daily life. To communicate with friends, to do business or receive the news, it’s important to be able to read well and yet 46% of Australians struggle with basic literacy skills.
Through the National Year of Reading campaign it is hoped that local events and online campaigns will help enhance the reading skills of Australians, through activities that will be aimed at both younger and older generations.
To help discover the joy of reading in the local area, Everton Park residents are being encouraged to sign up at the Everton Park Library or visit our local bookstores.
If you check with local libraries and bookstores they may even be running events to help support the National Year of Reading. If you visit www.love2read.org.au
you can find out if there are any events happening in the local area.
Reading can be a fun activity where you can escape to another world for a short time or learn more about the world we live in. Reading is a wonderful way to pass the time so why not pick up a book and start a culture of reading in your home?
